Middle School redistricting graphic

At the Oct. 14 Board of Education meeting, proposed boundary changes were presented as part of our ongoing middle school redistricting efforts to ensure balanced enrollment, maintain small class sizes and prepare for the opening of the Sequoyah 8th Grade Academy.

A few key points to note:

  • Redistricting Goals: The primary goals of the boundary changes are to balance student populations across our middle schools and maintain optimal class sizes. These changes also prepare for the opening of the Sequoyah 8th Grade Academy.

  • Future Redistricting: Given the shifts in student populations, redistricting will likely be necessary every two years to continue prioritizing smaller class sizes.

  • No Student Transfers or Grandfathering: Due to the enactment of HB 3386 on Intra-District Transfers and to maintain balanced enrollment, student transfers and grandfathering into previous schools will not be allowed.

The district hosted a Parent/Guardian Forum on Oct. 24. This was an opportunity to learn more about the proposed changes and ask any questions. (Download presentation) (View and/or download FAQs document)

Final boundary changes were approved at the Nov. 11 Board of Education meeting.
